Tonight: Catch a free movie (Dreamer) at 7pm in Palm Desert's Civic Center Park Amphitheater at 73510 Fred Waring. Based on a true story about a racehorse who made a miraculous comeback after a serious injury. The rugrats will love it.

Friday: The Salsa Summer Splash at Cathedral City's Doral Desert Princess Resort runs 18 hours a day, 10am-4am, thru Monday morning. I'm gonna wear a bib just in case, so none of that salsa will spill on my new Hawaiian shirt...

Saturday morning: From 10am-6pm, it's the Big Bear City Renaissance Faire. They have a special language - Okay: "Very well." Perhaps: "Mayhap." Beautiful: "Beauteous." Wonderful: "Wondrous." How the heck can you crack a complex code like that?

Saturday evening: At 7pm, the Summer Music Festival continues at Yucca Valley's Community Center Ballfield with Aunt Kizzy'z Boyz. According to their website, the "energy they create on stage is like being picked up by a twister." Toto, we're not in Kansas anymore...

Also: At 8pm, Kingsizemaybe and 50 Cent Haircut play at Pappy & Harriet's in Pioneertown. I wonder if that second band is related to Fiddy Cent?

Sunday: This year's Awesome August Party climaxes with the Mr. Awesome August Basket Contest at 9pm. What kind of basket? Bamboo? Wicker? Hand-woven palm fronds?!
