Whatchawannadothisweekend? (2Feb06)

Feb 2, 2006 - 10:40 AM
WEEKEND!Tonight: At 5:30pm, the Playwrights' Circle offers a free staged reading of "The Importance of Being," a one-act drama by Vicki Righettini. This play is about the long friendship between an actress in "The Importance of Being Ernest" and her dresser. The reading will take place at the PS Art Museum, adjacent to their lobby. And Vicki will be the woman standing off to the side, looking nervous.

Friday: Bruce Vilanch plays the Annenberg at 8pm. He's written material for the Oscars, the Tonys, the Emmys, and such stars as Whoopi Goldberg, Billy Crystal, Bette Midler and David Letterman. I'll bet you're saying, "Comedy writers are a dime a dozen." But how many have been the subject of a documentary (Get Bruce!), eh? (That's my .8333333333333ยข worth.)

Saturday morning: The Bighorn Glass Studio offers an Introduction to Glassblowing class on Saturday & Sunday at 8:30am-1pm. Hot stuff.

Saturday afternoon: Check out the Southwest Arts Festival between 10am and 4:30pm. It's at Indio's Empire Polo Club, so remember to avoid the steaming divot.

Saturday evening: The Gardens on El Paseo offers an evening of smooth and contemporary jazz at 5:30pm, featuring Sara Gazarek. Like, cooooooooool, man.

Sunday: The Palm Springs Air Museum will host the T-34 Mentors, with formation flight demos at 11am and 1pm. My dearly departed dad once surprised me by sticking my tender young butt in the back of a T-34 and doing precision aerobatics for what felt like an eternity. After that, the rest of my flight training seemed like a piece of cake.
