Tomorrow vs. yesterday. 22 march – 16th april 2008Dan Irvine and Mike Foss bring their strengths together for an exhibit which will push and pull at our sensory perceptions. "DAN IRVINE'S techniques include using digital cut outs and massive layering of images. His juxtaposition of images and use of color is a compelling chronicle of digital artwork, a calculated knowledge of media and a wisdom of both drama and intensity." - christina strong, art critic"I like the feeling that you may want to reach out and touch the painting..to feel the different texture on each." says MIKE FOSS. The perception of the viewer changes each time the painting is viewed due to the energy and movement these canvases possess.Opening Night Reception: March 22nd 7-9pmJ A N S S E N A R T S P A C E 333 SOUTH INDIAN CANYON DRIVE 92262... |

02/20/08Heading to the Fair -- a couple tips for youFirst off, bring your jacket if you want to make an evening of it.Still warm when I left Palm Springs last night, the weather was windy and chilly by the time I got to Indio. My sweatshirt barely kept me warm as I cruised the grounds of the Riverside County Fair and National Date Festival.Secondly, to skirt a $7 parking charge, try to snag a spot on the side streets. A lot of people park off Oasis and walk the extra five minutes to the main gate. The extra exercise may be warranted if you indulge in the most glutinous food ever -- think deep-fried Twinkies and chili cheese fries. This year I was good. I ate, actually I should say inhaled (there's just no other way to eat fair food), only one Italian Sausage sandwich. I searched for that stand for 20 minutes. To avoid wandering moments... |

02/18/08Deezer Dogs is a Taste of Chicago in the DesertI recently started working for The Desert Guide and paused for a lunch break. I left the Palm Springs Life building and looked for a place for a quick bit to eat. Much to my delight, I noticed a small restaurant right next door at 317 N. Indian Canyon Drive just north of Amado Road on the west side of Indian Canyon Drive called DeeZer Dogs. The place advertised itself as serving Chicago-style hot dogs. I was skeptical because I'd spent a lot of time in Chicago in my college days and knew the difference between a plain old hot dog and a true Chicago Dog. Was this just another joint making empty claims? There was only one way to find out. I walked in and found myself in a 1950s-style eatery. There were no tables, only a counter with old-fashioned swivel stools. I placed my order and... |
