Jul 28, 2006 - 08:03 AMSo I'm on my way to work, driving west through La Quinta ("Lah KEEN-tah") on Highway 111. A few hundred yards past Washington Street, I look up to notice that the shadows on the Santa Rosa Mountains are magnificent at this time of the morning. Then I begin to stare at the rock outcropping that's been split to make way for the road, and I wonder if it has a name.
After a bit of research, it turns out this place has been called Point Happy ever since it became a stagecoach stop along the Bradshaw Trail (1862-1877).
