Five canyons, no waiting: take a hike!

May 1, 2006 - 08:12 AM
Murray Canyon, by T. Brewster - click thumbnail to enlargeThe Indian Canyons (Palm, Murray [click thumbnail photo to enlarge], Andreas, and the previously-mentioned Tahquitz) are tribal lands, operated as public parks by the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians.

The tribe's fifth canyon (Chino) is visible from the aerial tram on the north side of Palm Springs.

Andreas Canyon is proably the most accessible and easiest to negotiate. If you've never experienced these beautiful wilderness areas, just a short distance from downtown PS, it's high time to get off that couch and take a hike!

To identify other hiking areas, get an overview here, or maybe you'll want to hike with a well-established club, like Desert Trails or CV.
