Whatchawannadothisweekend? (14Sep06)

Sep 14, 2006 - 10:47 AM
WEEKEND!Tonight: Since 'Retha just cancelled her concert, don't forget the free PS Art Museum admission from 4pm-8, to celebrate Villagefest, which runs from 6pm-10! Party hearty...

Friday: Maria Teresa Valenzuela is a traditional healer who sits on the Indigenous Board of Elders in the Sierra Madre of Chihuahua, Mexico. At 7pm, she will present a talk entitled The Earth's Evolving Consciousness, exploring the concept of prophecy as a way of understanding the challenge of these times: "The Seven Maya Prophecy, Azteca Prophecy and Inca Prophecy of the Condor and Eagle will also be discussed to predict the collapse of the foundations and forms that do not serve us anymore as we come to a closure in civilization on December 21, 2012 (Maya Cosmogensis)." Uh-oh. Sounds like it's high time to have a garage sale.

Saturday morning: At 9am, the Desert Film Society presents "Three Days of Rain", a film based on the short stories of celebrated Russian writer, Anton Chekov. In other words, lite fare. ;-)

Also Saturday morning: At 9:45am, PS Women in Film presents a Networking Brunch with Pat Fraley. Learn about the world of voiceovers! A "voiceover" is defined at "the voice on an unseen commentator." It's sorta what I do here... except we call it a "writeunder."

Saturday afternoon: At 2:30pm, Peppertree Bookstore throws a wine & cheese reception for author David Wallace, who will discuss his book, Exiles In Hollywood. Yum. The Desert QuidMooch smells free eats and drinks.

Saturday evening: At the Spotlight 29 Casino, En Vogue & After 7 perform at 8pm. Which is, by definition, after 7. How utterly... sequential.

Sunday: Oktoberfest continues in Big Bear, at noon. Great lineup of contests: Log Sawing, Stein Holding, Beer Drinking. And that's just for the kiddies.

Check the calendar for more activities!
