If you like to boogie on the dance floor or just listen to some good music while enjoying great food but can’t wait until Friday night, Wednesday Night Dinner and Dancing at Wally’s Desert Turtle is the place to go.

“We started dance night on November 28, 2012,” said Owner, Michael Botello. “Johnny Meza and I started brainstorming one evening about how to bring live music into the restaurant.”

The Johnny Meza Band performs the live music every Wednesday night from 6 -10pm. Johnny Meza, a native Southern Californian, has played in clubs, restaurants and festivals everywhere from San Francisco to Los Angeles to the Coachella Valley.

“They play a wide range of music,” Botello said. “His repertoire ranges from Frank Sinatra to Michael Jackson. He likes to play to the crowd and seems to play what genre is being asked for that night.”

According to Botello, there are a variety of menus and drink and food menus available on Wednesday nights sure to please everyone.

“The Dance Night $34 menu along with Wally’s regular menu is available in the main dinning room,” he said. “If you come early enough to get a coveted table in the bar area, you can enjoy the array of menu choices - a very nice bar menu with appetizers ranging from $8 for a pair of mini burgers to $14 for an order of crab cakes and drink specials on select wines and well drinks for $9. Also available in the bar area is the Mirage Bistro menu or the $34 Dance Night prix fixe.”

The Dance Night $34 Prix Fixe dinner menu give you the choice between soup du jour, a Caesar salad or mixed tender greens with a house vinaigrette for an appetizer. For an entrée, you can choose between roasted free range chicken breast, infused with Goat cheese, Pine nuts and sun-dried tomatoes, grilled artichoke hearts and Fig demi-glace; skillet seared filet of Scottish Salmon with Yukon gold potatoes and vegetable hash; or sautéed Iowa gold pork tenderloin with green lentils and glazed carrots. For dessert, you can have either Macadamia nut bread pudding or crème brulee.

Even though there is no dress code for Dance Night, Botello adds that some diners like to get dressed up.

“Our dress code is more relaxed than it was in the past,” he said. “We call it Desert casual - jackets and ties are no longer required any night of the week. Some of the dance regulars like to wear their dance attire on Wednesdays – it is really impressive to see.”

You may want to catch the next Wednesday Night Dinner and Dancing at Wally’s before it’s too late as Wally’s Desert Turtle will be closing for the season on Saturday, June 15.

“We will be serving a special Restaurant Week menu the last two weeks that we are open,” Botello said. “This menu will also be available Wednesdays. If you can’t make it this season, Opening Night for dinner service will be Friday, October 18 with Wednesday Dinner and Dance Night following the next week."

Put on your boogie shoes while you still can and head to Wally’s Desert Turtle Wednesday night!
