If you could use but one word to describe Vintage Club Members, the best word would be active. Certainly living alongside two renowned Tom-Fazio 18-hole championship golf courses complements the lifestyle, but world-class golf is only the beginning of all that goes on in this dynamic community in the sun-drenched Coachella Valley.

A well-received series of enrichment classes serves as a perfect example of yet another way Vintage Club Members demonstrate their active nature. Several years ago, management at The Vintage Club in Indian Wells, Calif., created the series of classes in response to the ongoing emphasis on health and well-being so prevalent in today’s society.

Some sessions revolve around physical activities like organized bicycle rides, group hikes, or bird-watching excursions, while others focus on specific hobbies and interests such as photography, cooking, drawing, and more. On occasion a collection of brain games to promote mental fitness will be included in the mix, and monthly wellness seminars effectively round out the program. All activities are designed to not only enrich people’s lives but also to create situations where Members can meet other Members and foster a deeper sense of community.

The activity doesn’t stop there. The aforementioned wellness seminars conducted by Jeralyn Brossfield, M.D., from the Eisenhower Wellness Institute proved so popular, they were instrumental in the launch of yet another program. Dr. Brossfield and a team from EWI responded to Members’ ongoing interest on the subject of wellness by devising and introducing the Vintage Vitality Program. Two years in the making, the Vintage Vitality Program’s premise is simple: In order to live well, you have to be well. This custom-designed medical and lifestyle plan can help members achieve their optimum level of wellness.

The Vintage Club’s active lifestyle starts with its stellar golf courses.

The six-week program begins with an executive-style health assessment that goes above and beyond. The assessment includes cutting edge testing on heart and brain function, an in-depth study of individual metabolism, a stress screening, and a physical ability evaluation. These are just the precursors of an action plan developed expressly for individual Members by the team at EWI. Once the health evaluation is complete, Members can count on a personal wellness coach to lead them through the steps. The coach’s efforts are supplemented by classes and other educational methods — a pantry overhaul, for example — to implement a system for participants to be well and live well.

Without a doubt, having a world-class Fitness & Wellness Center at their fingertips helps Vintage Vitality Program participants and Members of The Vintage Club in general remain vital. The 18,000-square-foot facility features cutting-edge cardiovascular, circuit training, and weight equipment, including military calibre Woodway treadmills that are specifically designed to be easier on bones, joints, muscles, and tendons. There are also studios dedicated to Pilates and yoga plus the newest fitness rave Gyrotonics®.

“We offer about 23 to 25 classes per week during the height of the season,” says Katie Chaplin, Fitness Director. “Our membership is definitely a highly active one.” Members also benefit from the expertise of six long-time personal trainers at The Vintage Club who possess serious credentials, including TPI Golf Certification and specialization in Muscle Activation Technique (MAT).

A personalized approach to fitness is definitely in evidence over at The Vintage Club’s Tennis Center. “We never say ‘no’ — and we pride ourselves on creating the most unique experience for each Member,” says Scott Berler, the Director of Tennis. From the moment a Member or guest first steps on the court with racket in hand, staff diligently set about personalizing their experience by learning just what each person wants and needs. There is a great deal of attention given to making sure each player is learning the game, playing safely, and above all, having fun. If a Member should show up without a game, no problem! The staff will match everyone up with a worthy opponent.

A personal touch is applied at The Vintage Club Tennis Center, where members receive hands-on assistance.

“If you want mixed doubles on Thursday afternoon, we can do it; if you want to play singles on Monday morning, we can do it; if you want cardio tennis on Wednesday night, we can do it,” Berler says. The Tennis Center also includes two Har-Tru tennis courts for those who prefer to play on a clay surface rather than concrete and a new pickleball court, where Members can try their hand at one of today’s fastest growing sports.

Although the single word active best describes the prevailing spirit at The Vintage Club, there are obviously multiple activities and amenities available for Members to carry out their mission. Whatever a Member’s personal definition of active is, there’s an activity — or several — to match it.

And Vintage Club Sales, open daily and on-site, is ready to help guide those who are seeking this level of community spirit through The Club’s wide array of real estate options. Be it golf or tennis, yoga or Pilates, bird-watching or drawing, participation in a personalized wellness program or simply regular sessions with a personal trainer, current and future Vintage Club Members can embrace their days knowing each one will be filled with all the things they love to do in a companionable, not to mention enviable setting.
