Why get all dressed up just to have a good time? Several clothing-optional resorts in Greater Palm Springs welcome visitors who want nothing to get between them and fun in the sun.

According to Brad Fuhr, clothing-optional resorts became popular in Palm Springs decades ago, primarily among gay men.

Today, clothing optional resorts in the Coachella Valley cater to both gay and straight visitors.

Fuhr, board member of the Desert Gay Tourism Guild, recommends first-timers visit a resort for a tour before booking. Go to a resort and “say that you’d like to take a short tour,” Fuhr advises. “You’ll know if it’s something you’d consider after you tour the property.”

You can also get a day or night pass for a shorter nude review.

Here are six places where everyone is barely there.

For Gays

INNDULGE
Located in the heart of the gay-friendly Warm Sands neighborhood of Palm Springs, Inndulge offers the requisite pool and 12-man Jacuzzi, open 24 hours a day. The view of the San Jacinto Mountains is impressive. Ask about two-for-one deals.

CENTURY PALM SPRINGS
Originally designed by William Alexander, the midcentury modern boutique hotel in Warm Sands has a range of rooms and suites that were renovated recently to past glory and are environmentally aware.

DESERT ECLIPSE RESORT
Another upscale option in Warm Sands where the salt-water pool is tranquil by day and romantic by night. Dogs are welcome, and summer deals are available.

For Straights

DESERT ECLIPSE RESORT
Our favorite line on the resort’s website: “Play tennis at the only place you can play naked tennis in Palm Springs.” Six acres of adult-only diversions. Locals might know of the so-called “Naked Bridge” that spans Indian Canyon Drive just south of Vista Chino Road. Stay here, and cross that bridge when you come to it.

LIVING WATERS SPA
The mineral waters of Desert Hot Springs are renowned for their therapeutic properties, and here’s where “spa” is just as important as “clothing optional.”
