Homebuyers rarely have the chance to purchase a newly built midcentury modern home that is both walking distance to downtown Palm Springs and framed in the shadows of the San Jacinto Mountains.

Skye, by Woodbridge Pacific Group (WPG), offers them that opportunity. The community of 40 high-end homes is currently under construction off Ramon Road, just west of Bellardo Road and the famed Ingleside Inn and Melvyn’s Restaurant & Lounge.

PLAN 1 EXTERIOR: Residence 1 has an entry promenade with views to the outdoor spaces, plus an option for a pool house with wet bar, as well as a second master suite. The floor plan will encompass 3,322 to 3,484 square feet. (Renderings are artist’s concept, and are not an exact representation of production homes.)

“The foundation of midcentury modern architecture is its simple, streamlined geometry with transparent expanses that eliminate the division of indoor and outdoor space,” says Todd Cunningham, president of WPG. “At Skye, you experience this with 12-foot ceilings in the main activity areas which run uninterrupted to the exterior, creating a sheltered outdoor area as a seamless extension of interior space.”

Floor-to-ceiling glass walls will actually be sliding panels that will stack to one side when opened and virtually disappear. And Cunningham notes that Skye’s roof designs complement that design and appear to be a floating element above the glass walls. “The roof design is also responsive to the desert climate, offering the sheltered, shaded living space mandated by heat and sun,” he adds.

PLAN 2 EXTERIOR: In Residence 2, buyers can chose from three to four bedrooms spread over 3,710 to 3,976 square feet.

Concrete, wood, and stone elements are another nod to the midcentury modern aesthetic. And the midcentury focus on flow and angled sight lines was WPG’s inspiration. “We wanted to provide functional, easy-living spaces, and [having a] flow that opens one space to a related space anchored all of our decisions,” says Cunningham.

The homes will be built in five different floor plans, each of which also offers optional spaces that can be easily modified — ideal for buyers needing an office, game room, extra bedrooms, or a secondary master suite. A stacked washers/dryer can also be added to the master suites. “The pet suite and super laundry are also key options. And flex rooms are just that — a finished space for buyers to define as they please,” notes Cunningham.

PLAN 3 EXTERIOR: Residence 3 is noted for its distinctive arrival/reception experience.

Skye’s model homes will open in November 2016 and the community has a projected completion date of late 2018. The models will incorporate a mix of old and new interior design with a midcentury influence that’s been updated for modern tastes and trends. Prominent features will include streamlined, flat door, high-gloss cabinetry in the kitchens that will be available in a variety of colors and finish styles, as well as Jenn-Air appliances.

And Skye’s home sites are quite generous. The smallest lot will be 14,000 square feet, the largest is 19,000 square feet, and all of the homes are sited to capture the mountain views.

PLAN 3 INTERIOR: WPG notes that Residence 3 will have an “Intriguing sequence of entertainment space,” a unique game room/optional bedroom, a dressing area in the master bath, and an optional multi-purpose room. The home will contain between 3,349 to 3,604 square feet.

“We orient main social areas to that western view and our floor plans respond to this orientation,” says Cunningham. “Thus, depending on where your home site is situated, your pool and patio will be at the front or the rear of your home and relate to the main social areas and mountain views.”

Anticipated pricing is from $1.5 million.
