A Celebration of the Best and Brightest in the Coachella Valley
Welcome to the 2017 Women in Business awards program, a Palm Springs Life event. The Women in Business awards program honors Coachella Valley’s most dynamic women in business making headlines in their field. Palm Springs Life, through this fifth annual awards program, is pleased to have the opportunity to celebrate the success and achievements of women in business throughout the diverse desert business community.
The three honorees of the 2017 Women in Business awards are women who have truly excelled, not only in their professional lives, but as leaders and role models. They may come from different industries and walks of life, but they are likely to all share several things in common — extraordinary accomplishments, a strong sense of self and a belief that anything is possible. This awards program honors the commitment, vision and talents that have made them true leaders in their chosen business fields.
The honorees were celebrated at an awards luncheon at The Ritz-Carlton, Rancho Mirage on Friday, May 19, 2017. Each honoree was highlighted in a special section in Palm Springs Life’s May 2017 issue, and the profiles appear on palmspringslife.com for one year.

Keynote Speaker, 2017 Women In Business Awards Luncheon: Denise DuBarry Hay
Denise began her early career acting, working on television shows like Black Sheep Squadron and Charlie’s Angels. When a quest to look great in a bikini ignited her pursuit of fitness, she opened Bikram-based studio, Malibu Yoga. She soon realized her love of working out was as much about feeling good as looking fit, and fitness became a lifelong pursuit.
She owns Bikram Yoga Plus Coachella Valley, voted the number one yoga and fitness studio in the Palm Springs area. An entrepreneurial dynamo, she co-founded Thane International in 1990 to market products, and produce commercials and infomercials. Her online products have featured fitness and weight loss, appliances and beauty.
Her family business, Secret Beach Organics, is a thriving 140-acre sustainable organic farm in Kauai that grows and ships turmeric root, yellow Hawaiian ginger and many popular fruits.
In the realm of film, DuBarry Hay has produced numerous projects. Her production company, Blue Moxie Entertainment, has produced two feature films in our desert, Shoot the Hero in 2010 with Danny Trejo and director Christian Sesma. And the 2016 feature film, Do It or Die, based on a true story of the 1979 kidnapping of a Palm Springs socialite. Denise starred in the film, directed by longtime friend Jorn Winther.
After her experience with Do It Or Die and receiving many kudos for her role in the film, Denise has decided to get back into acting – well, it’s never too late. She now has a manager in LA who has already lined up an opportunity for Denise to be in a film with John Malovich, J.K. Simmons and John Goodman.
