Palm Springs Life has partnered with the Kappe family, Sean Lockyer and the developer of the Desert Palisades neighborhood to bring these homes to the public eye with exclusive tours during Modernism Week, April 8-18, 2021. The completion of the Kappe Palm Springs house in 2021 will undoubtedly realize one of the most significant architectural events to happen in Palm Springs in several decades, while the Lockyer home provides an opportunity to see an outstanding example of new Desert Modern Design.

Ray Kappe, FAIA, was an internationally recognized architect, urban planner and educator. His body of work spanning from 1953 to present is considered to be an extension of the early Southern California master architects Frank Lloyd Wright, Rudolph Schindler, and Richard Neutra. Kappe’s residential architecture has been characterized as ‘the apotheosis of the California House.’
Sean Lockyer, AIA, AIBC is the founding principal and lead architect for studio AR&D architects. Sean’s choice for the direction of the firm has always been one that speaks to the craft and alliance between both architecture and the landscape.
About the Kappe House: Sited in Desert Palisades on the stunning Chino Canyon alluvial fan, this boulder-strewn desert landscape is a perfect framework for desert architecture. The home site commands incredible views of the steep and jagged escarpment of Chino Canyon, with long vistas of the desert floor cased by the San Jacinto, Santa Rosa and Chocolate mountains in three alternating directions. The natural setting provides an optimal environment for Kappe’s site specific desert modern design.
